In the mood for horror? How about kittens? Well, in this self-published story from Nathaniel Wilson, you get both! Join me as we delve into A Kitten, which is not as gross as it sounds… It’s much grosser.
Work It Out On The Page
There’s a full-page… diatribe? screed? pandemic-induced rant? On the first page of this book, which gets pretty political, but is fairly spot-on. Not that anything is apolitical these days. This book is basically the creator’s way of working out all of his frustration at the pandemic, and trying to provide an escape through horror from everything that’s going on. Which leads me to the question: is horror an escape for you? I do like horror comics as an escape, so the answer is an emphatic yes for me, but I thought it might be an interesting question to pose.
This is a simple story, about a little fluffy kitten, and his adventures with a generic bearded white guy city-dweller. You don’t get much backstory, and it don’t matter anyway, this is just a story about a man and a kitty. I won’t spoil it, but it is the most gruesome man-meets-cat story I’ve ever read!

I’ve never read anything by Nathaniel Wilson to my knowledge. This is interesting because it’s self-published, and he does all the writing and illustrating, so this is literally a one-man show! The writing is truly creepy, and he really nails the mood quite well. If you read my last two posts, you may remember that I mentioned that I like watercolor, painterly style, but I’m not too fond of most sketch styles? Well this is kind of a mix of both. I loved the art overall though, very expressive and scary. Bloody where it should be, and the colors really really work for this story. I feel like I can’t say too much without giving it away, but if you’re looking for a nice little creepy horror one-shot, pick this one up!
