Ram V and company hit the ground running with the first issue of a new volume of The Swamp Thing! Root yourself to your chair for this one, you’re not gonna want to miss it!
The Green Man
I’ve only ever read a few Swamp Thing stories, and all of those recent. He had a really cool story in that D.C. Winter anthology that came out a couple of years back, and I think he played a part in Doomsday Clock, if I remember correctly, but that’s about it to be honest. I’ve always thought he was a really cool character though, and I’m excited at the chance to see the birth of a new ongoing for him. Hopefully it’s popular enough to keep going!
Ram V is one of those writers whom I’ve circled around, but not actually read. I really want to read Blue In Green, I’ve heard it’s really good, and being a big jazz fan as well, I’m sure I’ll love it. I have to say, his writing is really impressive. He’s got a very strong prose style, which when done right, is so cool in a comic book. He’s also setting up the story very well, not really giving too much away in this first issue, but just enough to get the reader interested.

Not being so familiar with the character’s backstory, I have no idea if this person we’re seeing has always been Swamp Thing’s host, or if he’s someone new, but I get the sense that this is a new development. We’re also seeing the development of something much worse than Swamp Thing, who will presumably be his antagonist.
The two Mikes do a really good job here, I love the gorgeous detail that you can see in every panel. the colors are beautifully blended, and add just the right air of suspense to the story. Pretty straight forward as far as layout and panel design, the character design is nothing too out of what you expect from Swamp Thing, but they do just the most solid job working within what I’d call that “standard” framework. Keep an eye out for this one, I think this is going to be an ongoing you’ll want in your pull list.
